William (Bill) Boyle
Bill is the founder and former President of FiberGate, a Washington, DC metro area provider of Dark Fiber services whose network included 315 on-net buildings over 600 route miles and 120,000 fiber miles. The company was founded in 1995 and is based in Alexandria, Virginia. FiberGate was acquired by Louisville-based Zayo Group in 2012. He is on the Board of Advisors and active with the University of Maryland’s Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship and the Dingman Center Angels’ network which connects regional start-up companies seeking seed and early-stage funding with angel investors. Bill graduated from the University of Maryland – Robert H. Smith School of Business.
Lou Brown
Mr. Brown has over 45 years of experience in the high-tech industry and is considered one of Washington, DC’s most successful entrepreneurs. His engineering career began with Hewlett Packard and spanned the telecommunications and fiber optics systems, electronic point-of-sale network management, media asset management, and other technology-enablers for the 21st Century . Mr. Brown founded IDEAS Inc., a systems engineering company, in 1970 and served as its President and Chief Executive Officer until 1990. He has served in top executive positions including President, Chairman, and CEO for a variety of companies including FiberGate, Inc., Micros Systems, Inc., Planning Systems, Inc., Precision Tune Auto Care, Inc., and Autometric Inc. Mr. Brown holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD) in 1966.
Peter Keefe
Mr. Peter Creighton Keefe serves as the President of Avenir Corporation. Prior to joining Avenir in 1991, Mr. Keefe had been with Johnston, Lemon & Company including serving as its Director of Research. Mr. Keefe has been a Director of Precision Auto Care Inc. since 2003. He serves as the Chairman of Organization and Compensation Committee and Member of Audit Committee at Precision Auto. Mr. Keefe served as a Director of the C.F.A. Society of Washington, D.C. He is an Emeritus Trustee of Washington & Lee University. Mr. Keefe is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He graduated from the Washington & Lee University in 1978.
John Torre
Mr. Torre’s recent experience ranges from business-unit CFO for Verizon’s corporate division to CFO of a Washington DC-based consumer services start-up. John’s career highlights include the creation, development, planning, deployment and management of the $23B FiOS initiative which changed the strategic direction of Verizon. John has financial, strategic, and consulting experience in the Telecom, Software, Auditing, M&A and Government Contracting sectors. Mr. Torre is an active angel investor in new technologies and start-ups and is on the Advisory Board of the University of Maryland Venture Accelerator program.
