Washington, DC (March, 2015) – The United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued Astrapi its fourth patent, US 8,995,546, “Software Defined Radio”. Astrapi now has a portfolio of foundational intellectual property built upon the pioneering use of non-periodic spiral-based signal modulation.
Software Defined Radio (SDR), which involves the use of software to implement radio capabilities that have traditionally been implemented in hardware, is a very important direction in telecommunications that add enormous flexibility and computational capabilities. SDR is a natural match for spiral modulation, since spiral modulation introduces the ability to greatly expand symbol waveform design and to manipulate signal characteristics on a continuous, rather than per-symbol, basis. Astrapi’s newly-issued patent is the first to explore the intersection of these two dynamic technologies, and captures important new intellectual property.
“Our team has been working diligently to answer questions that emerge about this exciting new field of exploration – spiral-based modulation,” said Dr. Jerrold Prothero, Astrapi Founder and CEO. “Astrapi is leading the way as industry migrates from periodic to non-periodic waveform generation and SDR is a key implementation technology.”
ABOUT Astrapi Corporation
Astrapi is the pioneer of spiral-based signal modulation, which opens an unexplored area for innovation at the core of telecommunications. Based on a new generalization of Euler’s formula, the foundational mathematics for telecom, Astrapi provides fundamentally new ways to design the symbol waveforms used to encode digital transmissions. By applying new mathematics to signal modulation, Astrapi is able to improve the trade-off between the four fundamental parameters in telecommunications: bandwidth, signal power, data throughput, and error rate. The resulting efficiency translates into higher spectral performance with more bits available at a lower cost.
